Being intrigued by this one particular sliver of clay, I put it on top of another sliver as a base, and immediately this title came to my mind. It’s an entirely visual and intuitive reaction to the energy that a shape holds. Exploring the theme further and making a series of it, I realised that it’s about the isolation of the figure as well. That’s where Giacometti’s influence comes in, an artist whose imagery I explored back in art school and that hasn’t left me since.
